Position Overview

The Student Assistant for the School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures serves as the resident Lead Graphic Designer and Assistant to the Media Coordinator, and provides administrative assistance and backup to the full-time administrative staff.

Job Description

Develop creative content for digital and print applications; create layout and determine best medium for marketing materials; enhance photography; assist with programming and implementation of departmental and school events; manage digital marketing platforms; promote events on-and -off campus; take on leadership role of SLLC design team. Answer phones, greet visitors, make photocopies, scan documents, maintain clean and orderly public spaces, stock and organize supply cabinets, other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Advanced proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop as evidenced by application materials or previous work experience
  2. Experience in typography and visual art, as supported by portfolio
  3. Ability to manage workflow for several simultaneous projects as evidenced by previous work experience
  4. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Excellent communication skills
  2. Basic or better proficiency After Effects (or similar motion graphic programs)
  3. At least one year office experience, answering phones, making photocopies
  4. Ability to interact frequently with the public
  5. Experience with HTML and CMS/ DRUPAL
  6. Experience in photography and video editing
  7. Experience in Social Media marketing
  8. Work study eligible
  9. Availability M-F, 11 am to 1 pm
