Job Description

Student Assistants are responsible for performing duties such as making photocopies, scanning, preparing PDFs and other classroom materials, on-campus errands and delivering recycling materials. They maintain office equipment, post information on departmental bulletin boards and remove outdated materials, reserve and retrieve equipment for faculty and instructors, maintain a clean desk and office area, update department records in Excel and Word documents as needed and create event fliers and congratulatory banners as needed. Student Assistants scan materials for use on Blackboard as requested by faculty and assist with special projects.
TELEPHONE/RECEPTIONIST DUTIES
Student Assistants answer the main office telephone using courteous telephone techniques by being able to operate a multi-line phone system. They screen calls and visitors to the department, provide assistance, and refer non-routine inquiries to the Administrative Assistant or Office Manager.
MAIL DUTIES
Student Assistants prepare outgoing mail, including adding postage, typing up envelopes, and confirming addresses, pick up and deliver US and campus mail and distribute incoming mail. They prepare, direct, and deliver assorted packages for mailing.

Required Qualifications

  1. Previous university or office experience as stated in application materials.
  2. Strong communication skills and attention to detail as demonstrated in application materials.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
