Position Overview

This position is responsible for assisting Professor Daniel Tapia Takaki as part of his Communications Team in designing and creating print and digital materials for events, websites, and initiatives, as well as special designs for promo items and more.

Job Description

The student graphics assistant will support the Communications Team of Prof. Daniel Tapia Takaki’s group in the following ways:
  • Create print materials for campus-wide, community and state-wide, national-wide and international-wide events and initiatives.
  • Design content for project website, social media channels, e-newsletters, and recruitment emails.
  • Create original designs for promotional items.
  • Maintain display cases located at KU and ship materials to other institutions.
  • Provide event support.
  • Assist with general office work.
*This position will be a hybrid of on-site and telework.

Required Qualifications

  1. Mastery of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite as shown in application materials.
  2. Experience creating marketing materials as evidenced in application materials.
  3. Strong written, verbal and design skills as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and able to multi-task as stated in application materials.
  5. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:
    1. have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or
    2. be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or
    3. be enrolled in summer session or
    4. be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Ability to work quickly, and as a part of a team.
  2. Experience with still photography.
  3. Experience with creating video graphics for social media and YouTube.
  4. Demonstrated ability to adapt to new training and responsibilities.
  5. Either Spanish or French language ability.
  6. Can work independently and have problem-solving skills and self-motivation.
