Position Overview

The Student Office Assistant for the departments of East Asian Languages & Cultures, French; Francophone & Italian Studies; and Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies (SEAFIG) provides administrative assistance and backup to the full-time administrative staff. The ideal candidate will be a student who is seeking long-term employment in a busy office environment.

Job Description

Answer phone, greet visitors, make photocopies, scan documents, sort mail, maintain clean and orderly public spaces, and other duties as assigned. If the student has design skills and interests, they will also be asked to assist with social media campaigns. The student must have excellent communication skills and be able to interact professionally and frequently with the public.

The student must be available to work 10-15 hours a week during reception hours (M-F 8am to 5pm).

Required Qualifications

  1. Previous experience working in an office or in clerical/administrative support as evidenced in application material or prior work experience
  2. Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word) as evidenced in application material
  3. Must be Federal Work Study eligible
  4. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments to enroll in 1 credit hour DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Interest in foreign language study
  2. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud
  3. Experience in photography and video editing
  4. Federal Work Study eligible
