Position Overview

Hands-on work creating the lighting and projection elements involved in the University Theatre and University Dance Company’s Season. Lighting and projection assistants work primarily in the areas of Stage Electrics.

Job Description

The student will be able to perform the following:
  • Lighting: hang, focus and maintain theatrical lighting equipment. Console operation, and programming, supervision of students in the Lighting Production course. Other duties as assigned.
  • Projections: Help set up, focus and program projectors.

All positions: Involves the use of power tools, the safe operation of stage equipment and machinery, working at heights. Maintenance and inventory of light/projections equipment and spaces utilized in the production.

Required Qualifications

  1. Proven experience in the operation of light and projection equipment as evidenced in application material or from previous work experience. PLEASE SUBMIT A LIST OF SKILLS/EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE.
  2. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Lighting: Two-hour class in LIGHTING PRODUCTION - THR 224 OR proven experience in technical theatre
  2. Familiarity with ETC consoles, automated lighting and CAD/Vectorworks
  3. Projections: Familiarity with Q-Lab
  4. Attention to detail and self-motivation required. Able to work individually, as well as with others, as needed

Work Schedule

10-20 hrs/week. Various hours depending on the production schedule. Occasionally, it is optional to includes some evenings and weekends.
