Position Overview

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering is seeking a student employee to assist with general office duties as well as long-term goals of the department.

Job Description

The general hours we want to cover are from 10am to 3pm for at least 2 hours at a time. We are flexible and willing to work around the schedule of quality candidates.

Working closely with the departmental advisor and the undergraduate program chairs, the student hourly will:

1. Act as department receptionist (answer phones, direct inquiries, ship and receive packages, distribute mail, clean, etc.)
2. Print and file documents for accreditation review
3. Scan student files to ImageNow
4. Post social media updates from the department
5. Other general assistance as needed

Required Qualifications

  1. Current KU student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  2. Strong attention to detail as determined by application materials
  3. Understanding of confidentiality and FERPA.
  4. Have general knowledge about Microsoft Word and Excel through previous work experience OR course work as demonstrated in application materials.
**During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous office or clerical experience.
  2. Experience with social media.
  3. Website and/or graphic design experience.
  4. Ability to work 2 or more hours at a time between 10am and 3pm.
