Position Overview

Substitute Lead Teacher in Language Acquisition Preschool (LAP) at the University of Kansas. This position is responsible for a variety of instructional and curricular duties. The substitute lead teacher position is an on-call as needed basis. Advance notice will be given when possible but some calls may be early morning in the event of unexpected or emergency situations.

Job Description

70% - Classroom teaching. Checking in children as they arrive; executing all daily activities according to lesson plan (i.e., opening circle, centers and dramatic play, story time, sharing time, recess, snack, small group, and music time); dismissing children to their respective families.

30% - Setup and breakdown of the classroom. Setting out any toys or materials needed for the day; unstacking kids' chairs from small tables; refreshing the classroom between morning and afternoon sessions; putting away any toys or materials as needed at the end of the day; stacking kids' chairs on small tables.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education
  2. Experience and/or skills in communication disorders of young children as evidenced in application material or from previous work experience
  3. Must obtain "lead-qualified" status within 30 days of hire, which requires CPR and First Aid certification (provided), Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) training (provided), and LAP orientation (provided)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  2. Experience in preschool setting
  3. Experience in providing classroom intervention, including language facilitation strategies in naturalistic settings
