Position Overview

This position supports KU graduate students who are completing research in the Great Plains. The position is funded by the National Science Foundation, and will support field and laboratory work for the AIMS project. This individual will be based at the KBS-CER, Higuchi Hall, Room 40/47. Students will be able to do field work in Idaho for a week at the end of June, expenses and time paid.

Work hours are generally between 8am-6pm M-F with the occasional field work over the weekends or overnight trips.

Job Description

90% - Field and lab Interns will help graduate students prepare sample containers for collecting water, gas, and soil samples.
  • Opportunities may include: data entry, data organization, soil, water, and gas sample collection in the field and lab, washing dishes, and use of analytical instrumentation.
10% - Other duties assigned.

Position Requirements

  1. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds with or without accommodation.
  2. Ability to hike on uneven terrain, as evidenced in application materials.

  1. Interest in Environmental Science or related field, established by letter of interest.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with collecting samples and doing basic field tasks, assist with planning and organization of trips
  2. Experience with processing samples in the lab
  3. Experience with power tools and manual labor (e.g., landscaping)
