Position Overview

Technicians will work in the production shops during the entire period of the Kansas Repertory Theatre, May 29 – July 30, 2018. Individual work assignments, including shop hours worked, will be determined by the shop supervisor. Normal shop hours are from 8:00AM-5:00PM. Technicians will also be assigned a crew position for one or both productions. Most of these duties will be evening duties. When you are working on crewing responsibilities, you will not be working during the day. Some technicians MAY NOT be assigned to crew one or both productions, depending on the needs of the productions, but will continue to work in the shops during tech and dress rehearsals and performances. Availability for crewing is a condition of employment

Job Description

80% - Hands-on work creating the scenic, properties, costume, lighting, and sound elements for the two productions. Could involve use of power tools, painting, working with fabrics, and operation of light and sound equipment.

20% - Scene shop, Costume Shop, or Light/Sound maintenance and inventory of equipment and spaces utilized in the production of the various show elements. Positions do not involve any office or computer skills.

Required Qualifications

Some skill and/or experience in at least one of the following:
  1. Operation of large and small power tools
  2. Operation of a sewing machine
  3. Working with fabrics
  4. Hanging and focusing of stage lighting
  5. Operation of a sound control board
  6. Stage management or assistant directing
  7. Attention to detail and self-motivation required
  8. During the semester term of the appointment, the student assistant must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester, or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, or 3) be enrolled in summer session, or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Knowledge in the technical area you are applying for is MANDATORY. Do not apply unless you have expertise in the area.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in Technical Theatre
  2. Able to work individually, as well as with others, as needed
