Position Overview

The Center of Community Outreach overseas 13 programs that provide meaningful service opportunities for students, address various needs through collaborative partnerships, and empower our community through education and advocacy.

Job Description

The Development Director for the Center for Community Outreach will:
  • Work with the Executive Director and the Center for Community Outreach advisors to
    develop learning objectives and outcomes for the development and growth of the
    CCO. Coordinate opportunities to facilitate progress toward these goals.
  • Develop and implement accountability and training protocols for CCO staff, program
    coordinators, and community partners in collaboration with CCO and CSL leadership,
    including one Fall and one Spring educational retreat.
  • Work with representatives from the Center for Service Learning, various student
    groups and university organizations to develop the Center for Community Outreach’s
    role in service and experiential learning at the University of Kansas.
  • Serve as the representative of CCO at Student Senate meetings and as a liaison
    between CCO and Student Senate.
  • Assist in the search for grants in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Assist in the execution of one (1) large fundraising event under the oversight of the
    Executive Director and Managing Director.
  • Oversee the maintenance and growth of the Center for Community Outreach’s
    University Endowment account through facilitating CCO’s Launch KU campaign during
    the Fall semester.
  • Report directly to the Executive Director and Managing Director.
  • Execute other tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours at KU.
  2. Evidenced commitment to community outreach and service as demonstrated in application materials.
  3. Experience working collaboratively with others as demonstrated in application materials.
  4. Experience using strong organization and time management skills as demonstrated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous experience working with the Center for Community Outreach.
  2. Previous experience facilitating content in group settings.

1. Describe your experiences with community service. Elaborate specifically on your involvement with the CCO and other service organizations that you have been involved in.
2. What is a specific goal that you have if selected as Development Director of the CCO? How will you implement that goal?
3. What particular skills or insights would you bring to the Development Director position? Please specifically address your experience with fundraising, service learning, leadership development, and large event planning (preferably in a volunteerism context).
4. Give your current demands, what strategies do you use to maintain a consistent work/school balance? Since this position requires work to be done during the summer and throughout the academic year, how will you structure your schedule to meet these demands if you are selected for this position?
