Position Overview
The Center of Community Outreach overseas 13 programs that provide meaningful service opportunities for students, address various needs through collaborative partnerships, and empower our community through education and advocacy.
Job Description
The Events Director for the Center for Community Outreach will:
- Assist Executive and Managing Directors with the planning of Super Service Saturday in the fall.
- Collaborate with a community partner to host a service event in the fall.
- Select a suitable theme of advocacy for Into the Streets Week and assist all 13 of the CCO programs with hosting an event focused on the respective theme.
- Plan the keynote event for Into the Streets Week in the spring, which involves finding and scheduling a speaker, as well as planning a reception for students, faculty, staff and community members.
- Coordinate volunteering events for all 13 of the CCO programs in conjunction with program coordinators and the CCO Executive Staff.
- Report directly to the Executive Director and Managing Director. Serve as a member of the Executive Staff, which includes attending staff meetings, peer-advising meetings, and Advisory Board meetings during the spring semester and during select fall semester meetings.
- Execute other tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at KU.
- Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Be available to work a total of 40 hours over the summer break, 80 hours total for the fall semester, 20 hours over winter break, and an average of 10 hours per week during the spring semester.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with the Center for Community Outreach.
- Background in event-planning and working collaboratively with others on large-scale projects.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Strong oral communication.
- Commitment to community outreach and service.
