Assistant Director of Choral Studies/Assist Professor of the Practice
Position Overview
The University of Kansas, School of Music seeks to fill a full-time, academic year (nine month), non-tenured choral conductor to teach in ann Assistant Professor of the Practice capacity to begin on August 18, 2025. Job Description
Teaching (75%):
Service (25%):
- Oversees and conducts one or more choral ensembles, and teaches graduate choral literature sequence.
- Teach seven courses a year, which could include, undergraduate choral conducting, applied voice lessons, undergraduate choral music education classes, supervising/mentoring graduate teaching assistants, or related fields. Teaching load will not exceed four courses for a one semester period.
Service (25%):
- Work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees.
- Collaborates with other members of the faculty.
- Recruit music majors and students pursuing other major area of study.
- Participates actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in Choral Music and 3 years of music or choral teaching experience OR a PhD/DMA in Choral Music
- Experience performing, directing, or conducting in a choral group.
