Assistant Professor of Composition – Electronic Music


Position Overview

The University of Kansas School of Music invites applications from composers, for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Electronic Music Composition, at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the Fall 2025 semester. The successful candidate will have a strong record of creative activity with a national artistic profile in music composition and music technology. Duties will include teaching courses in electronic music, applied composition in both classical and commercial genres, and music theory. Additional responsibilities include developing and maintaining the electronic music studio, directing MM and DMA composition theses and dissertations, and participate in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and University.

Job Description

Teaching - 40%
Teach courses in electronic music, applied composition lessons in both classical and commercial genres, and music theory.

Research/Creative Work - 40%
Maintain a record of creative activity in music composition and music technology that indicates continuing growth of national visibility.

Service - 20%
Service duties include participation in School and University committees, as well as service to the profession in regional, national, and international activities in music composition.

Required Qualifications

  1. Doctoral Degree in Music Composition or closely related field by start of appointment.
  2. Experience teaching at the collegiate level
  3. Demonstrated record of success in music composition in concert and/or electronic media as evidenced by application materials and interview process.
