Position Overview
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA) in the School of Engineering leads the school’s academic affairs at the undergraduate level. The ADAA is the primary representative of the school on all academic affairs and is responsible for academic and administrative leadership of the School of Engineering’s undergraduate programs. The ADAA plays a critical role in promoting and maintaining the academic excellence of the school through leadership, oversight, planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of all aspects of academic programs. The ADAA strengthens KU’s position as a world-class leader in engineering education by providing resources to enhance undergraduate education and by developing strategies to support student recruitment, enrollment, retention, progression, and graduation.
The ADAA reports to and serves at the pleasure of the Dean of Engineering.

The ADAA will hold a 60%-time administrative appointment in the School of Engineering, with the remaining appointment in the ADAA’s academic department. The percentage appointment may be negotiated.
This is a 9-month appointment with additional pay provided for completing tasks during the summer months.

Job Description
60% - Associate Dean primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Lead and promote a culture of educational excellence
- Increase undergraduate enrollment
- Develop goals and strategies for improving undergraduate retention
- Work with departments and units to develop innovative academic programs
- Coordinate strategic directions and policy development for academic programs
- Provide supervision of Dean’s Office staff in Undergraduate Programs, and Career Services
- Commit to, develop and implement strategies to increase the enrollments of women and underrepresented minority students
- Develop proposals to external agencies to support and enhance undergraduate education
- Support and collaborate with Engineering Faculty Senate, University Faculty Governance, KU Core Committee, Honors Program, Graduate Studies, and other relevant units
- Work with the Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Associate Chairs, Directors, and staff on undergraduate affairs
- Represent School of Engineering and serve on relevant School and University committees and advisory boards
- Serve as the internal liaison with relevant University units and external liaison with other Universities and Colleges
- Coordinate supplemental instruction, tutoring, and advising
- Work with the Office of Admissions on recruiting programs
- Coordinate outreach activities with local middle schools and high schools
- Responsible for other related duties and special projects, as assigned by the Dean
- Manage administrative functions related to undergraduate programs
- Oversee recruitment, admissions, orientations, enrollments, curricula, retention, academic progression, and graduation of undergraduate students
- Oversee the development, review, and improvement of undergraduate degrees and certificates
- Manage the scholarships and fellowships for undergraduate students
- Oversee scheduling of classes
- Oversee summer class offerings
- Develop initiatives to promote academic honesty and integrity
- Oversee students’ petitions, academic probations, dismissals, and readmissions
- Responsible for implementing School of Engineering and University policies for grade appeals and academic misconduct
- Responsible for the Undergraduate Teaching Fellows Program
- Oversee student organizations and manage allocation of funds through Engineering Funding Advisory Committee (FAC)
- Serve as the faculty advisor for Engineering Student Council (ESC)
- Work with student groups and programs on activities (e.g., Engineering Expo and annual high school day competitions)
- Supervise the camps for middle school and high school students
- Oversee ENGR courses (e.g., Academic Success Seminar and Introduction to Engineering)
- Collect, analyze, and disseminate relevant data on undergraduate programs – supported by the school’s data analyst
- Coordinate articulation agreements with other institutions
- Responsible for ABET, HLC, and other accreditations and associated reports
- Responsible for University, Kansas Board of Regents, and State of Kansas assessments
- Prepare relevant internal and external reports
Required Qualifications
- Associate Professor or Professor of the School of Engineering faculty.
- Experience managing staff members.
- Experience teaching engineering courses.
