The Director of the Center for Online and Distance Learning reports to this position. This position will be either fiscal year appointment (12 month) or an Academic Year (9 month) appointment with summer salary.
This position is 50% as the Associate Vice Provost for Learning Innovations is an Internal Only Search open to current KU tenured faculty. The hired candidate will maintain a 50% faculty responsibility in their academic department.
Jayhawk Global is an education innovation center that advances and delivers flexible forms of learner engagement, including online degree programs, professional and workforce development, certifications, competency-based educational offerings, credit for prior experience, employee training, and enrichment learning. By coordinating and ensuring current campus resources work in harmony to support high-quality educational offerings for online degree programs and online and on-ground noncredit programs, Jayhawk Global provides access to the University of Kansas’ high-quality engaging educational opportunities learners can enjoy in Kansas and around the world.
In Jayhawk Global’s first phase we focused on online education. In our second phase we facilitated the improvement of university infrastructure to support more flexible, competency-based education programs as an addition to our online offerings. Soon we will enter a third phase where we will consider other learning innovations.
Jayhawk Global serves three functions in supporting innovative academic programs: (1) project management to ensure that programs have coordinated university supports required to develop and implement new innovative programs (currently online and competency-based), (2) financial support to reduce the cost of initial program development, and (3) instructional and learning design support to ensure new programs are of high quality and meet the accreditation requirements of the Higher Learning Commission. We now seek a faculty member who will be a champion of student learning and work with other faculty and administration to identify, improve, and help programs design and implement new learning models.
