Position Overview
Applied English Center Lecturer/Academic Program Associates (APAs) are appointed as non-tenured faculty with a combination of instructional and academic-related program responsibilities. Lecturer/APAs support the AEC by collaborating with colleagues and contributing to various AEC projects that benefit the program, its students, and the university. Lecturer/APAs teach courses in or related to English as a second language and assist with program-related duties, administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned. Percentages for teaching and professional performance areas depend on unit needs.
Currently the unit has a specific need for an individual who can assist with accreditation in accordance with the Commission for English Language Accreditation (CEA) standards, as well as advocate for international students and participate in building a culture of care and sense of belonging. This is a 12-month, fiscal year position.

Job Description
50% - Teaching: Teach courses in or related to English as a second language in the Center’s Intensive English program, short-term programs, and other AEC courses as assigned. Utilize and implement innovative approaches to teaching English for academic purposes.
40% -Academic Program Support: Engage in assignments that are essential to supporting and facilitating the mission of the department, as assigned by the Director or the AEC administration, including but not limited to:

- Grading the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) test
- Assist faculty with first day diagnostic testing for student placement
- Conduct and/or assist with mandatory technology training for students
- Create and/or contribute to social media for designated programs
- Develop core curriculum and materials
- Develop core assessments and diagnostics
- Conduct research relevant to the program
- Assist with accreditation activities
- Conduct and/or assist with AEC orientation activities regarding policies, procedures and expectations
- Write grant proposals
- Collaborate with colleagues on awarded grants
- Perform service related activities for the department, university, and to the profession.
Required Qualifications
- M.A. in TESL/TEFL, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
- 2 years of ESL/EFL teaching experience at a post-secondary institution with students from more than one culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in TESL/TEFL, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
- Prior experience with CEA guidelines and accreditation standards.
