POOL - Instructor - Law School


Position Overview

The School of Law invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit online applications to the instructor pool to be considered for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions. Positions vary and are dependent upon the need for instructors, if any, for courses being offered each semester.

This position is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for the fall 2026 semester. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

The instructor position is a union covered position within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of Kansas University (UAKU). UAKU is the exclusive bargaining representative for the bargaining unit. As the State of Kansas is a right to work state, you have the right to be a member or not to be a member of the union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

Due to complex state laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Specifically, we cannot currently offer employment to candidates residing in the following states: California, Delaware, Idaho and Minnesota. Job Description

100% Instructional Duties:
  • As an instructor for the law school/university, primary duties and responsibilities include teaching in a specific field, developing course materials, developing and managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising students and holding office hours.
  • All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in the field, and are required to adhere to departmental, school/college and university policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  1. Terminal degree in discipline (J.D. from an ABA accredited law school or its foreign equivalent) and five years of relevant experience, or master’s and seven years of relevant experience.
  2. Record of research, scholarship or achievement in discipline or course being taught as demonstrated in resume.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior teaching experience at the law school level, particularly in the subject matter of the course(s) being taught.

Advertised Salary Range

Commensurate with experience, subject matter being taught, number of courses taught, credit hours assigned to the course(s) and FTE allocation. Minimum starting salary is $1,750.
