Pool - Lecturer - Chemical & Petroleum Engineering


Position Overview

Teach one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in the Chemical or Petroleum Engineering field at the University of Kansas. Classes may be in-person, online, or a hybrid format.

Applications will be reviewed and placed in a pool for consideration for part-time (regular or temporary) teaching positions, as they are needed.

Applications will be accepted throughout the year. Appointments are one semester, renewable, subject to review and funding. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Any employment with the University of Kansas is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.

Job Description

40% - Prepare and present lectures and other teaching materials for one or more undergraduate courses in chemical engineering or petroleum engineering, as described in the approved course syllabi.

40% - Hold office hours, design and supervise laboratories, projects and exams as appropriate to the course.

20% - Grade student laboratories, projects and exams and/or supervise graders and teaching assistants.

Required Qualifications

Lecturers for undergraduate courses require an earned Master's or Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or closely related scientific disciplines will be considered.

Lecturers for graduate classes requires an earned Doctorate in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering ~ OR ~ an earned Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering plus five years of closely related industrial experience

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Doctorate in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering
  2. More than one year of teaching experience at a university level
  3. Excellent communication skills
  4. Experience working with and advising engineering students
