Assistant Dean
Position Overview
This position is a 1.0 FTE appointment serving the School of Professional Studies (SPS) at the University of Kansas. Areas of responsibilities include: enrollment management (35%), academic support services (35%), student experience and success (20%) and other (10%). The position is a member of the Dean's Leadership team and works with various campus stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives supporting Jayhawk Rising.
The position serves as the school liaison to and works closely with the areas within Enrollment Management and Academic Success to provide seamless support and experiences for School of Professional Studies students. The position supervises the Graduate Student Recruiter, Enrollment Analyst, Student Services Specialist, and Assistant Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The position reports to the Associate Dean.

Job Description
35% Responsibilities Related to Enrollment Management
- Lead admissions processes in alignment with School and Program enrollment goals.
- Liaise with Analytics, Institutional Research, & Effectiveness (AIRE) to advocate for and optimize dashboards that support SPS and its constituents.
- Collaborate with enrollment Analyst to gather, analyze, and distribute point in cycle reports to inform enrollment management strategies within SPS.
- Work with campus partners such as Academic Success Navigators, Academic Advisors, and Enrollment Marketing and Communication to meet and exceed enrollment targets for new students.
- Monitor student enrollment reports for retention to meet and exceed enrollment targets for continuing students. This includes working with Jayhawk Academic Advising (JAA) to initiate campaigns related to course enrollment.
- Incorporate KU’s Student Success Framework to drive enrollment initiatives and decisions.
35% Responsibilities Related to Academic Support Services
- Serve as the owner of Undergraduate and Graduate regulations tab of school catalog for School. Works with SPS Academic Council to review and update policies as needed to support student success.
- Manage change of school forms and other school-based approval forms/workflows and approve/deny as appropriate; communicate all decisions to both student and advisor (workflows automate this); manage all petition workflows for School and ensure JAA is aware of those expectations.
- Ensure that academic advisors are well-informed regarding School policies, processes, and program opportunities.
- Work with units within SPS and across KU to ensure that degree progress reports, or similar enrollment management software, is accurate and updated for each catalog year.
- Manage email account where DPR error messages are received and escalate errors as needed.
- Coordinate with Program Directors to plan/implement their long-term course offering pattern.
- Manage Honor Roll, Distinction/Highest Distinction, and other academic awards.
- Oversee degree certification and conduct final graduation approval processing for all degrees within SPS in coordination with the Registrar's Office.
- Manage pre-requisite review processes.
- Identify disparities, gaps, or opportunities for improvement in student success and engage key stakeholders to address findings.
- Conduct school academic probation checks, tracking, and both student and Registrar’s Office notifications as appropriate and as according to School policy.
25% - Responsibilities Related to Student Experience & Success
- Undertake School initiatives appropriate for holistic student experience in alignment with KU’s Student Success Model.
- Communicate with SPS students individually or en masse to share important school updates, events and functions.
- Lead a team to envision, design, and develop programs to foster engagement of students, faculty, staff and/or community members in the research, instruction and/or service of the School.
- Manage petitions, grievances, and other special processes within SPS. These could include student petitions, charges of academic misconduct, grade appeals, retroactive withdrawals, and fee petitions.
- Provide training to key stakeholders in SPS and across campus about school-level processes related to petitions, grievances, and other special circumstances. Guide students as needed through steps as they complete them to fulfill all KU policies and compliance measures.
5% Other Responsibilities
- Serve on committees as needed.
- Assist with School co-curricular programs for engagement and student connections.
- Perform other duties in support of the mission of the School of Professional Studies.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree and 4 years of relevant experience in higher academic administration or bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience in higher academic administration.
- Demonstrated effective written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Higher Academic Administration.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, as evidenced by application materials.
- Prior administrative or management experience, particularly in a university setting.
- 2 years' experience using data driven practices focused on student success.
- 2 years' experience leveraging CRM tools for enrollment management goals.
- Excellent computer skills and demonstrated interest and capacity in the use of the internet, databases, on-line research and new technologies, as evidenced by application materials.

Advertised Salary Range
Min $80,000, commensurate with experience
Work Schedule
8-5 M-F, some evenings and weekends as needed.
