Assistant Researcher
Position Overview
The Juniper Gardens Children’s Project (JGCP; www.jgcp.ku.edu) is seeking to hire an Assistant Researcher to assist with a newly funded NIH research project. This study aims to examine a social communication intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who have complex communication needs, attending local preschool programs.
We are seeking an Assistant Researcher to work 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) with guidance from the project Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators. This individual will be responsible for collaborating with multi-site research teams, families of young children with ASD, and school staff from community preschools and programs. Responsibilities will include scheduling project activities, providing intervention support and coaching school implementers, observational coding of behaviors, data entry and management, recruitment assistance, and team collaboration.
This position requires reliable transportation and the ability to be flexible in attending preschool visits during the day. Strong organization, administrative skills, attention to detail, and communication skills are required, as evidenced by work experience. Please note that all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the background check. Continuation is dependent on yearly funding and satisfactory annual evaluation.
The position is at JGCP, located in downtown Kansas City, Kansas in the Children’s Campus of Kansas City building, 444 Minnesota Ave, Suite 300, Kansas City, KS 66101. This position will be a hybrid of on-site work and telework as deemed by the supervisor.

Job Description
- (50%) Provide ongoing intervention support and coaching to school staff and participants with ASD.
- (20%) Assist with data collection and data management activities.
- (10%) Assist in scheduling project research activities, team meetings, and provide clerical support.
- (10%) Assist in the development of project materials, including intervention manuals/resources, presentations, handouts, and websites.
- (5%) Collaborate during regular project meetings across research sites.
- (5%) In collaboration with the principal investigator, assist in producing reports and presentations to communicate findings and progress to funding agencies.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology, special education, psychology, applied behavioral sciences, or related field.
- Six months experience working directly with individuals with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities in classroom or community programs as evidenced by application materials.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of office productivity applications (e.g., Excel) and cloud-based applications such as SharePoint, Google Docs and OneDrive as evidenced by application materials.
- Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in speech-language pathology, special education, psychology, applied behavioral sciences, or related field.
- Experience implementing interventions in early childhood settings to individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
- Experience with the conduct of research projects.
- Experience collaborating with administrators of community preschools and community agencies and stakeholders.
- Excellent oral communication skills as demonstrated by interview process.
- Excellent organizational skills as demonstrated by application materials and interview process.

Advertised Salary Range
$21,500 to $23,500 annually, commensurate with education and experience
