Associate Researcher
Job Description
Job Duties:
45% Conduct research for state, regional, county, and/or city transportation organizations in Kansas and other locations. The following tasks are associated with this role: Managing all internal Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI tasks of the grant, as required by the University of Kansas. Seeking out transportation-related requests for proposals (RFPs). Writing proposals in response to these RFPs. Leading efforts in conducting studies for project sponsors including analyzing data and writing reports that document findings. Managing a research team to support efforts of this task.
30% Senior Personnel of the Kansas Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP). The following tasks are associated with this role: Assisting Principal Investigator (PI) with all the internal tasks of the grant, as required by the University of Kansas. Supporting PI of the annual RTAP grant to KDOT including the development of the written content and the budget with support from KUCR.
Coordination and reporting to the PI and the grant monitor (KDOT) on a regular basis. Assisting with the planning of all internal RTAP staff meetings, to ensure the delivery of tasks as outlined in the grant. Supporting RTAP staff, including the on-staff trainer and staff and student researchers. Facilitating all programming associated with the annual RTAP grant including educational programming, outreach, and technical support. Participating and coordinating the RTAP annual advisory board meeting.
15% Manage KUTC graduate and undergraduate students employed in transportation-related research projects. The following tasks are associated with this role: Understanding the staffing needs of the KUTC by working with the management team on task allocation and budgeting.
Developing position descriptions and interviewing for GRA and Student Hourly positions.
10% Represent the KUTC with key transportation organizations that are stakeholders in the technology transfer products and services of the KUTC. The following tasks are associated with this role: Participating in state-wide event planning committees such as the Kansas Transportation Engineering Conference. Serving on statewide committees and support associated tasks. Representing the KUTC on the Kansas State Transportation Innovation Council.
This position is designated as fully remote, pursuant to KU Human Resource Management's Flexible Work Arrangement policies.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field and three years of the following experience: Working with transit studies; Working with state, regional, or local transit agencies to identify unfunded transportation needs, innovations to improve service;
Collecting, analyzing, and documenting transportation data of one or more of the following types: transit ridership, evaluation of transit agency funding levels, transit agency organizational analyses, safety records, or other transportation-related data;
or
Ph.D. in Urban Planning or a closely related field and one year of transportation-related experience, including the following: working with transit studies; working with state, regional, or local transit agencies to identify unfunded transportation needs, innovations to improve service; collecting, analyzing, and documenting transportation data of one or more of the following types: transit ridership, evaluation of transit agency funding levels, transit agency organizational analyses, safety records, or other transportation-related data.
