Full-time position with benefits, subject to a six-month probation and annual performance reviews. The official University of Kansas title is “Research Engineer.” Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position Overview
The Electrical Engineer Technologist tests, maintains, and troubleshoots field data acquisition equipment. With freedom to conceive, design, and build hardware and software that supports data acquisition, they will help move research projects forward. In-house lab equipment includes mulitmeters, oscilloscope, solder re-work station, 3-D printer, desktop CNC mill and more. There will be mentorship for this position from our current Electrical Engineer.

Job Description
65% Participates in a hands-on fashion with survey planning and execution both in-house and in-field, e.g. GPS mapping, bench testing equipment, and assist with equipment layout and configuration. Looked to for repairing and troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment. Install and test geophysical equipment in new and unique environments.
15% Design and build task specific electronic equipment and/or software for a wide range of applications both for research and practical application.
10% Collaborate on statewide programs like the annual water-level measurement program.
10% Advise on configuration and troubleshooting of electronic equipment for the Kansas earthquake network.

Position Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Opportunity for occasional travel, averaging 25-30 days per year.
- Periodically work in varied outdoor conditions.
- Lift and move up to 25 pounds short distances with or without accommodation.
- Work independently and make decisions with minimal guidance.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, plus 1 year of relevant experience OR Associate's degree in electrical engineering technology with 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience with diagnosing/troubleshooting electronic equipment malfunctions and successful repair as evidenced by application material.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience programming in C, C++, and/or Visual Basic.
- Demonstrated experience with electronic test equipment.
- Developed hardware, software, and/or firmware products as evidenced by application material.
