General Maintenance Repair Tec - HVAC


Position Overview

Facilities Services supports KU's mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems), with employee being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using more than one skilled trade. Duties involve the operation of work issued vehicles.

Job Description

50% - Follows an established inspection routine in an assigned group of buildings for needed maintenance and repairs to various mechanical/electrical, plumbing and building structural equipment. Performs lubrication, cleaning, inspections, changes belts and filters in equipment. Performs repairs on heating, ventilating and air conditioning units, replace bearings, electric motors, gear reducer, air compressors, various electrical and pneumatic control components, etc.

40% - Responds to emergency calls involving loss of utilities or equipment failure. Reset equipment and assists with repairs on HVAC equipment. Repairs are performed as time and expertise permits. May assist other central shop staff with more complex repairs.

5% - Other Related Work as Assigned: Maintains an adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies for
jobs. Responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Assists with other maintenance areas and in
other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment.

5% - Performs other related work as assigned.

Position Requirements

  1. Reach, grasp, lift, carry, and place moderately heavy loads frequently, and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs.) with or without accommodation.
  2. Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures – both hot and cold, inside, and outdoors. Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather.
  3. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  4. Work planned, and unplanned overtime as needed.
  5. Must have a valid driver’s license by the time of hire and maintain that license throughout employment.
  6. Must digitally enter work order information and perform other electronic communications as required.
  7. Must have a valid driver's license by the time of hire and throughout the term of employment.

Required Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  2. Two years of experience in a skilled craft area. Associate degree or vocational school certification may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Advertised Salary Range

No less than $35,776 annually ($17.20 hourly). Salary offers increase with relevant experience.
