Position Overview
The University of Kansas is expanding its HVAC team and is seeking experienced master or journeyman-level HVAC technicians. This senior role involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing industrial and commercial heating and cooling systems while ensuring work quality, efficiency, and compliance with local and national codes.

Job Description
HVAC Operations (75%)
- Inspect, monitor, diagnose, and repair industrial and commercial HVAC systems, including associated plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and control systems. Work is done independently or with limited supervision. Documents repairs for internal and customer understanding.
- Provide maintenance on refrigeration and chiller equipment including associated equipment such as cooling towers.
- Review heating and cooling requirements, recommend modifications, and ensure optimal system efficiency.
- Participate in the installation of new equipment, research procedures, and document processes. Sources parts for new installations and repairs.
- Apply hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Documents prescribed procedures for proactive/preventative work.
- Work with customers to resolve heating and cooling issues.
- Mentor junior technicians and lead teams to successful outcomes.
- Provide training and professional development on new systems and controls.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) with or without accommodation.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures indoors and outside.
- Work overtime and respond to after-hours emergencies – primarily through rotating on-call process.
- Availability during inclement weather.
- Ability to digitally enter work order information and perform electronic communications.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of industrial or commercial HVAC experience (an associate degree or vocational certification may substitute for one year of experience).
- EPA CFC Certification for refrigerants.
- Experience in repair and troubleshooting of 3-phase voltage systems as evidenced by application materials.
- Valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in low-pressure refrigeration repairs and troubleshooting as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience mentoring or conducting training as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience maintaining equipment inventory and documentation as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience in a university, college, or multi-building campus environment as evidenced by application materials.
