Position Overview

The Center for Educational Opportunity Programs (CEOP) at the Achievement and Assessment Institute is seeking a highly skilled individual to lead the day-to-day management, planning, and development of project staff and activities for the KU GEAR UP program in Kansas City, Missouri. The KCMO GEAR UP project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education that provides programming in the Kansas City Missouri Public School district, specifically for low-income and first-generation college students. This project follows a cohort of students for seven years, providing them with programming, activities and support to ensure they are successful in graduating from high school and pursuing post-secondary education. This position will serve as the supervisor of project staff and will oversee the organization and implementation of GEAR UP activities and events in accordance with the grant. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the target population and the principles of equal opportunity in education. The successful candidate will be familiar with the GEAR UP program and have the proven ability to develop strong working relationships with project partners and the school district being served. The successful candidate will be available to attend night and weekend events and will spend most working days in a space provided by the school district. This position will be responsible for ensuring the goals and objectives are met by providing organization, structure, and accountability to project staff performing the work. This position is based in Kansas City, Missouri and will report directly to the Principle Investigator/Director of CEOP.

- Directly supervise GEAR UP staff based in Kansas City, MO
- Oversee supervision and scheduling of hourly tutor mentors within the schools for embedded tutoring activities and afterschool programs
- Develop and coordinate program activities with GEAR UP project and district staff according to grant expectations and make plans for execution
- Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures related to the overall structure, HR expectations, and administrative tasks related to the project
- Ensure staff are appropriately capturing and submitting data required by the evaluation team
- Ensure project staff are aware of and adhering to all applicable federal, state, and university regulations
- Establish and maintain contact with community stakeholders including school administrators, district personnel, and partners
- Act as the lead on conveying goals, sharing program vision
- Assist the PI with completion and submission of the Annual Performance Report
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of CEOP
Position Requirements
Work will be performed on-site in KCPS buildings and classrooms. Some night and weekend work will be required. Some travel, including overnight travel, will be required.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education, counseling psychology, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing major programs, coordinating events, and/or supervising staff
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with grant funding and/or grant proposals
- Demonstrated excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills as evidenced by work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in education, counseling psychology, or related field
- Prior experience with TRIO/GEAR UP programs
- Experience in the public-school setting
- Experience working with grants funded by the U.S. Department of Education
- Extensive knowledge of the financial aid and post-secondary admissions process and knowledge of the educational needs of the target population as evidenced by application materials.
- Demonstrated leadership and relationship building skills as evidenced by application materials.

Work Schedule
Work hours are usually Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with some evenings and weekends.
