Position Overview

These position are located in the Jayhawk Debate Institute.

Job Description

100% - Freshman & Sophomore Camp Lab Leaders:
  1. Attend all lab meetings with campers.
  2. Create an affirmative, case negative, and assigned core negative positions for campers to use.
  3. Work with students to develop debate skills such as speaking, researching, debate theory and argumentation.
  4. Present assigned lecture and provide supervision during lecture sessions
  5. Escort students to and from campus (by bus or foot).
  6. Judge practice debates and tournament debates.
  7. Participate in all camp activities.
  8. Must be able to listen to and follow directions.
  9. Must be able to take on a position of authority.
  10. This position runs between June 18 - July 8, 2023

100% - Lab Leaders for the Jayhawk Debate Institute (2-week and 3-week camps):
  1. Provide instruction on debate to students at camp.
  2. Present lectures to the camp.
  3. Teach students and provide opportunities for students to practice speaking, research, and argumentation.
  4. Judge tournament debates.
  5. Participate in all camp activities.
  6. Must be able to listen to and follow directions.
  7. Must be able to take on a position of authority.
  8. Two-week JDI Lab Leader positions run June 18 - July 01, 2023
  9. Three- week JDI Lab Leader positions run June 19 - July 8, 2023

Required Qualifications

Freshman & Sophomore Camp Lab Leaders:
  1. Must be an active member of the NDT/CEDA policy debate community

Lab Leader for the Jayhawk Debate Institute (2-week and 3-week camps):
  1. Must be an active member of the NDT/CEDA/High School policy debate community
  2. Three years policy debate experience at both the high school and college (NDT/CEDA) levels

Preferred Qualifications

Freshman & Sophomore Camp Lab Leaders:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies or a related field
  2. Strong organizational skills
  3. Experience working at a debate camp
Lab Leader for the Jayhawk Debate Institute (2-week and 3-week camps):
  1. Experience coaching high school or college (NDT/CEDA) policy debate
  2. Success in debate competition on the college (NDT/CEDA) level
  3. Experience working at a debate camp

Advertised Salary Range
