Position Overview
The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a part-time, temporary Scene Shop Coordinator to support the scenic construction and design efforts for the University Theatre’s production season. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe and efficient operations within the scene shop and may provide instructional support for students involved in scenic construction labs. The Scene Shop Coordinator will report to the Artistic Director, working closely with the Scene Shop Manager, Technical Director, Technical Coordinator, and Production Manager to help create an engaging and productive theatrical environment. The successful candidate will possess a strong skillset in interpreting working drawings and collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

Job Description
Scenic Painting, and Properties Area Support (90%)
- Execute and install scenic and properties designs for departmental productions.
- Maintain and organize scene shop equipment, tools, and materials, and oversee safe practices in shop operations as needed.
- Support the inventory and upkeep of stage properties and scenic materials.
- Collaborate with the Scene Shop Manager and Technical Director, to assist with pricing, purchasing, and restocking as needed.
- Attend creative, production, and strike meetings to support continuity in the production process.
- Participate in technical and dress rehearsals as needed to ensure proper scenic support and adjustments.
- Assist the Scene Shop Manager and other members of the technical staff in mentoring students and supporting instructional lab work.
- Advise and supervise student Scenic Designers, Assistant Scenic Designers, and other Set and Properties crew members as needed.
- Train and supervise students in safe and effective practices for scenic construction, including painting, carpentry, and basic metalwork.
- Guide students completing scenic production lab hours and support casual labor staff in scenic construction for Theatre and Dance productions.
- Ensure adherence to departmental, college, and university policies on safety and conduct.

Work location is fully on-site.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of practical experience in scenic design, construction and/or scenic painting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in carpentry, rigging, welding, painting, and other technical skills essential for scenic construction, as shown in application materials and previous work history.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in training and supervising student scenic designers and crew members.
- Proven experience in managing and maintaining scene shop supplies and equipment.
- Prior experience working effectively with a variety of university faculty, staff, and student populations.
- Demonstrated excellence in scenic design.
