Postdoctoral Researcher
Position Overview
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the School of Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU). The postdoc position is supported by a new initiative in the School of Engineering at KU. The goal of this initiative is to open new opportunities and expand research funding by connecting existing faculty expertise at KU Engineering. The successful candidate will be supervised by a group of faculty who share the common research interest in cell-biomaterials interface.
Job Description
60% Research
5% Laboratory protocol
- Conduct interdisciplinary basic and translational research related to cell-biomaterials interface.
- Develop new methods or biomaterials that can be used to promote cell growth, infection reduction, or tissue removal at interface. An example will be the development of new coatings to promote ultrasound cavitation for the breakdown of biofilms.
- Communicate scientific results effectively, both written and orally.
- Author peer-reviewed publications.
- Assist in writing grant proposals to achieve funding goals for future research.
- Assist other laboratory members with experiments
- Assist the principal investigator to provide experimental and technical supervision of one or more technicians, graduate students and/or post-doctoral researchers and/or fellows.
5% Laboratory protocol
- Develop standard operating procedures and safety protocols for laboratory
- Ensuring systems are in place for efficient planning of lab supplies, records, and document management
Position Requirements
This position is required to work on-site.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Ultrasonics, or a related field
- Experience with cell/animal study research
- Experience in research related to interfacial or surface science.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience, as demonstrated by published peer-reviewed publications, in cell research, biomaterials, implant, and infection reduction.
- Experience in the application of biomedical ultrasound to promote interfacial activities, such as drug delivery, biofilm removal, and cell stimulation.
- Experience in medical device development.
- Able to communicate effectively with a diverse, interdisciplinary research team.
Experience with proposal development.
