Professional Learning Specialist


Position Overview

Accessible Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Systems (ATLAS), a research center at the University of Kansas (KU), is seeking a Professional Learning Specialist to assist in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning solutions for ATLAS partners and stakeholders. This position also contributes to ATLAS as a learning organization, including by supporting the ATLAS Core Value Series and the continuous improvement of Professional Learning team processes and tools.

ATLAS creates technology-based learning and assessment systems that are accessible and academically rigorous. Dynamic research on skill development, assessment design, and teacher professional development informs the center’s map-based learning systems.

Job Description

  • 45% - Collects and/or develops content for learning solutions (e.g., identifying graphics, retrieving documents with essential information, building out scenarios in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts).
  • 15% - Develops evaluation assets (e.g., building learner feedback surveys).
  • 15% - Coordinates learning design functions with other ATLAS partners (e.g., Writing & Editing, Learning Management Workgroup, Assessment Workgroup).
  • 10% - Contributes to learning environment analyses.
  • 10% - Contributes to ATLAS as a learning organization, including by contributing to the continuous improvement of Professional Learning team processes and tools.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), unclassified position.
  • Depending on the center’s and team’s needs, well qualified candidates may be allowed a work location that is hybrid or remote.
  • This position will be required to travel to Lawrence and/or other locations occasionally.
  • This position will require attendance at regularly scheduled meetings, onsite or through telecommunication platforms.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related professional experience.
  2. Highly proficient in the use of PowerPoint as a tool for graphic design/layout, as demonstrated in application materials.
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills to work effectively with subject matter experts across functional teams, as demonstrated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Proficient in Articulate Storyline.
  2. Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  3. Experience supporting the learning & development functions of an organization or company.
