Student Service Manager
Position Overview
The Student Services Manager is responsible for managing the student services offerings at the KU Edwards Campus and KU’s additional satellite campus locations serving KU Lawrence/Edwards portfolio programs on behalf of Academic Affairs. This position assures holistic and accessible academic and student supports are available for undergraduate and graduate students served outside of the Lawrence educational site. The manager works closely with all student services units on the KU Lawrence campus to provide access, adapted delivery, or to replicate services as appropriate. The manager serves as a liaison and point of contact for satellite campus needs for Academic Success, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Education and Graduate Studies to assure aligned practices and optimizes student support for non-traditional learners. This position delivers face-to-face, frontline student support at the KU Edwards Campus and provides student service oversight to the service portfolio of KU’s satellite campuses. The Student Services Manager reports to the Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Success.
This position is part of the University Academic Support Centers (UASC) in Academic Success, a division of Academic Affairs at KU. Academic Success advocates for and strategically advances education at the University of Kansas. We work with students from orientation to graduation and beyond. Job Description
- Manage the student service portfolio available for all undergraduate and graduate students taking classes at the KU Edwards location.
- Deliver student services at satellite and off-campus course delivery locations, with primary responsibility for KU Edwards Campus. Work closely with KU unit directors on strengthening infrastructure and anticipating resource needs to address campus growth.
- Supervise, hire, train and evaluate professional and/or student staff who provide testing accommodations and proctoring services for students with academic accommodations.
- Connect students to critical services in Academic Success including disability support, academic learning services, career services, academic advising, student support resources by triaging students to the proper care unit for in-depth service while providing foundational service and information.
- Provide support to students as needed including referrals to CAPS mental health services, Student Support and Case Management, Watkins Health Services, Care Services, MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault, the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights, and University Ombuds Office.
- Serve as the student-facing liaison for KU Edwards and other satellite locations for SSCM (Student Support and Case Management) and SCRT (Support and Care Referral Team) as needed for student context or connection when needed. This may include requesting well-checks for on-ground students with local law enforcement.
- Serve as the student-facing liaison to Office of University Registrar to assure that student records that arrive at KU Edwards are forwarded to main campus for proper opening and processing (mailed or hand-delivered transcripts; background check forms etc.) This may also include serving as the campus point of contact when officers visit the campus for in-person background checks or investigations.
- Serve as the student-facing liaison to Student Affairs for critical student needs. This includes assuring that satellite campus students who pay Student Fees and the Wellness Fee have access to those services in relevant ways. This may also include being trained to serve as the campus protest responder and related efforts.
Student service offerings and student success strategies (30%)
- Manage the portfolio of student service functions carried out at KU’s satellite location, assuring comprehensive student care relevant to the location and student population.
- Work collaboratively with Academic Success Leadership in the development and implementation of student services for KU Edwards and satellite locations.
- Track student service traffic and impact data for reporting and analysis. Complete an Annual Report of the Satellite Service portfolio each year to be included in the Academic Success Annual Report.
- Develop or collect informational resources on the supports available to metro-area students and make them available on campus or online as appropriate.
- Hire, train and supervise student or professional staff required for KU Edwards or other satellite campus locations that provide frontline student service.
Academic Success duties (10%)
- Serve as ad hoc member of the Academic Success Leadership Team to assure that satellite campus initiatives align with Academic Success Priorities and overall communications to students.
- Serve on KU committees or workgroups relative to satellite campus student success.
- Participate in department and campus meetings and trainings.
- Participate in relevant professional development annually.
- Other duties as assigned by Academic Success Leadership.
Position Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or Bachelor's degree with two years of related work experience.
- At least one year of professional experience in student life, student housing, or other frontline higher education student services that involve student development, student service, and/or and emergency response/crisis management.
- At least one year of supervisory experience.
- Ability to work independently at a satellite campus location while being part of a team as evidenced by past work experiences listed in application materials.
- Strong written communication skills as demonstrated by cover letter and resume.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of, and practical experience with non-traditional learners, satellite campuses, or community college student service experience.
- Experience with higher education behavioral intervention teams or related student support efforts.
- Experience with emergency management or student crisis care.
- Demonstrated work experience and/or understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and student records.
- Experience with higher education technologies such as EAB Navigate (Jayhawk GPS), PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (Enroll & Pay), Canvas, or other student service technologies.
- Experience with campus one-stops or student service hubs.
- Supervisory experience.
