Temporary Assistant Researcher


Position Overview

The Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities (KUCDD), a research, training, and community service center, is conducting a project investigating the combined effect of a self-determination learning program and reading program on elementary students with or at risk for reading disabilities.

We are looking for three temporary part-time assistant researchers who will work as tutors with small groups of 4th and 5th graders to implement established curricula related to reading and self-determination. This will include data collection activities, including administering literacy assessments to children in the Lawrence, KS, area.

Occasional meetings will take place at KUCDD, located in Lawrence, Kansas, and in public schools in the Lawrence area.

This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with children and a team of professionals. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required for this position. Please note that all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the background check. Continuation is dependent on satisfactory evaluation and funding.

Job Description

85% - Implement reading and self-determination lessons with children and collect data using standardized assessments, observational measures, and surveys; build and maintain rapport with research partners including families, teachers, program administrators, and students; communicate and work with research partners to schedule and administer interventions.

10% - Complete research tasks, such as scoring and submitting data, data entry and checking, participant tracking, and overall data management.

5% - Attend data collection team and research project meetings and training.

Position Requirements

  • This position will be working on site in the Lawrence, KS area.
  • Must be available for 5 – 20 hours during elementary school hours (8:30 am – 3:30 pm) at least three days per week.
  • A valid driving license and access to reliable transportation.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, early childhood, special education, counseling, or related field.
  2. One (1) year of experience working with and teaching elementary-aged children.
  3. Effective organizational skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood or special education.
  2. Experience administering assessments.
  3. Experience participating in research projects related to reading intervention/education.

Advertised Salary Range

$15.00-$25.00 hourly, commensurate with education and experience

Work Schedule
