Position Overview
The University of Kansas Student Senate is the primary advocate for students on campus. As one of higher education's finest models of self-governance, 110 senators and 11 executive staff members work together to allocate about $25 million in student fees in ways that best serve students. Student Senate also represents the KU student voice within University, State, and National Governance, working to address and develop policy in students' best interests.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description
- 30% - Advocate on behalf of all demographics of students at the University, including by addressing their needs to university leadership and departments and by supporting policies to improve their safety and success at the University.
- 25% - Inform multicultural student organizations of resources available through the Student Senate and the University at large.
- 20% - Promote awareness of events supporting all students and, if feasible, organize events promoting multicultural awareness.
- 15% - Maintain the Student Senate’s relationships with community supportive services funded through the Required Student Fees.
- 10% - Research the effectiveness of legal, healthcare, childcare, financial, and other supportive resources provided by the University.
Required Qualifications
- Available on Wednesday nights from 5pm-10pm for Student Senate meetings.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with Student Senate.
- Familiarity with university community ideologies and work.
- Experience in research academically/professionally.
- Ability to work with a variety of student organizations and students from all backgrounds across campus.

Advertised Salary Range
$10.50 per hour
Work Schedule
10 hours per week including Wednesday evenings beginning at 5:00 p.m. A portion must be served in the Student Senate office between 8am and 9pm, Monday through Friday.
