Community Children’s Center Closet Assistant
Position Overview
The Student Community Action Corps Program facilitates the engagement of KU students with various community organizations, programs, or support in community-engaged efforts. Student employees will support their partner organization and/or program with various tasks and projects while receiving monthly training and support from Center for Service Learning staff.
The Community Children’s Center (CCC) has helped Douglas County since 1965. They provide “available, accessible, and affordable” childcare to children aged 0-5. In addition to childcare, they provide education, support, advocacy, and programs to build up family and workplace health within the community. CCC runs an early childhood clothing closet to support any families in Douglas County who care for a child 0-5 years old. Much of this specific position revolves around helping run and maintain this closet.

Job Description
- Early Childhood Clothing Closet Support (75%)
- Pick up clothing contributions from various locations in the community
- Sort clothing by age, season, etc.
- Set up and maintain clothing displays
- Provide customer support for community members utilizing the closet
- Operational Support (20%)
- Welcome community members to the CCC
- Help to set and clean up for different activities at the CCC
- Table for and attend community events as a representative of the CCC
- Stock food in the Community Store
- Hand out ready-made meals to community members
- Support CCC staff as they move from their current closet location to their new community store location in 2025 (packing, moving, setting up, etc.)
- Other relevant duties as assigned by the site supervisor and program staff (5%)
Required Qualifications
- Student employees must be Federal Work Study-eligible
- Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to complete projects independently with attention to detail.
- Basic experience with general office work and use of Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Excel).
- Adaptability and flexibility to new tasks, settings, and opportunities.
- Ability to take initiative and work both as a team and independently based on the task.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

- Responsibility and personal accountability for completing tasks; attention to details and deadlines.
- Willingness to learn new skills and work in new areas to support team efforts.
