Computer Technician - Student Hourly


Position Overview

The Student Computer Technician provides technology support to Life Span Institute investigators, faculty and staff in a networked computer environment including computer hardware, software, peripherals, printers, mobile devices and others. Customer service is provided over the phone, in person visit or office visit.

Job Description

100% of duties will include, but not limited to:
  • Hardware and software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Network device connection and troubleshooting.
  • Answering and providing guidance to the customers.
  • Other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  2. Experience in support of networked Windows OS systems, applications, and peripherals.
  3. Quick learning and excellent problem solving skills.
  4. Ability to assist faculty, staff and other students in a positive and polite manner.
  5. Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in supporting computers and networks in an office environment.
  2. Familiar with Mac OS, Linux, iOS or Android. Basic programming/scripting skills.
  3. Availability of at least 2 hour blocks of time on each workday.
