Coordinator of Kansas Work Study - Student Hourly


Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the student coordinator assists in the administration of the Kansas Work Study Program. The purpose of the Kansas Work Study Program is to help local employers hire KU students to work in career-related positions. The coordinator manages applications, checks eligibility, processes contracts and invoices and monitors the budget. This position is ideal for a student who likes working with numbers, details and record keeping, but also can communicate well with employers and students.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

  • 5% - Communicate with employers interested in participating in the program, providing additional information and details and explaining the requirements
  • 10% - Process employer and student applications for eligibility in the program
  • 60% - Issue employer contracts and accurately process employer invoices throughout the fiscal year
  • 5% - Provide periodic budget reports to employers with details on funds spent
  • 5% - Monitor employer use of funds and track student earnings in the program
  • 5% - Maintain excel spreadsheets and other electronic files and update financial reports
  • 5% - Maintain communication with employers to ensure timely processing of invoices and usage of their funding.
  • 5% - Provide information for year-end reports

Required Qualifications

  1. Maintain a 2.0 GPA or better.
  2. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  3. Available year round, over the summer, including break periods when possible.
  4. Available starting May 2025, continue through summer 2025 and the 2025-2026 school year.
  5. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous work experience that required attention to detail.
  2. Previous experience working with numbers and budgets.
  3. Must have good follow-through.
  4. Be able to take initiative and complete work without a great amount of supervision.
  5. Good problem-solving skills.
  6. Error-free typing and mathematical ability.
  7. Accounting background helpful.

Advertised Salary Range

$12 per hour

Work Schedule

15 hours per week, between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. (Summer availablility preferred)
