Graduate Assistant for Aerospace Engineering Class Support


Position Overview

Aerospace Engineering is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) to support Aerospace Engineering faculty in managing course content and collecting evidence in support of course and curricular learning outcomes. Managing online course content includes but is not limited to capturing, previewing and editing faculty video lectures and posting content to Canvas. This position will coordinate with faculty and the Center for Online & Distance Learning (CODL) to gather information to prepare courses for conversion to online format and the Quality Matters framework. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, is detail-oriented, and works well as part of a team. The candidate will ideally continue in this position for multiple semesters contingent upon continued satisfactory progress and available budget.

Job Description

  • 40% Support faculty in managing online course Canvas sites:
    • Capture and preview recorded lectures for sound and video quality.
    • Parse videos into meaningful smaller segments.
    • Upload recorded lectures to the course Canvas site.
    • Upload online course content to the Canvas site.
  • 40% Support faculty in mapping course and curriculum learning outcomes into Quality Matters criteria for modules with regular and substantial interaction:
    • Collect course documentation for submission to CODL.
    • Assist faculty with developing sustainable assessment rubrics for course and curricular learning outcomes.
  • 20% Other duties:
    • Collecting evidence in support of course and curricular learning outcomes
    • Other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  1. Experience using Canvas, Zoom, and Teams.
  2. Experience using Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
  3. Experience using Adobe Acrobat.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Admission to and full-time enrollment in a graduate degree program at KU.
  6. In good academic standing and making satisfactory progress towards a graduate degree at KU.
  7. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must:
    1. have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or
    2. be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or
    3. be enrolled in summer session or
    4. be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be for undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
