Position Overview
KU Recreation Services provides a variety of resources for wellness, physical fitness, team, and individual sports, group fitness classes, and personal training. Indoor and outdoor facilities accommodate a broad range of athleticism -- from beginners looking to improve their health with low impact exercise to seasoned athletes aspiring to push their physical abilities to the next level.

Job Description
Responsible for the daily operations of the KU Fit Instructor; weekday and weekend hours including early morning, afternoon evenings and/or late evenings. An instructor must be certified in CPR/AED or become certified within four weeks after being appointed. Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Developing, leading and instructing participants through group fitness sessions to include a proper warm up, cardio/strength workout, and cool down.
- Preparing class choreography & plans in advance.
- Recording participation numbers.
- Implementing risk management procedures when necessary.
- Assisting with good housekeeping by keeping studio, equipment, and equipment closets tidy.
- Accurately completing payroll clock in/out.
- Assisting with special events and contract classes.
- Accurately documenting and completing payroll by the Sunday prior to pay date.
- Obtain and maintain proper CPR/AED certification.
- Participation in CPR/AED drills.
- Substituting when able.
- Finding substitute instructor when unable to teach.
- Attending monthly meetings.
- Constantly communicating via email, Group Me App, or text.
- Promptly alerting supervisor with any concerns, questions, broken/malfunctioning equipment, program concerns and personal issues.
Required Qualifications
- Possess current CPR/AED certification, or willing to obtain within 4 weeks of employment.
- Either completion of ACE Group Exercise Instructor Course taught through KU Recreation Services and Professional fitness certification will be required 6- Months from hire date. Or Nationally recognized organizations such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, Yoga Fit etc. accepted.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication as evident of the application material.
- Previous experience as a group exercise instructor.

Advertised Salary Range
$15.00 - $18.00 per hour
Work Schedule
Instructors will possibly work morning, afternoon and evening hours Monday-Friday and/or various weekends.
Anticipated Start Date
Monday December 23, 2024
