KU International Student Ambassador


Position Overview

The Office of Admissions reports to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management which includes the following functional units: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Information Systems and the Office of the University Registrar, Enrollment Management Communications and Graduate Enrollment Management.

The Office of Admissions is responsible for domestic and international undergraduate admissions for both freshman and transfer students. The Office of Admissions coordinates the overall recruitment strategy for KU including travel, on and off campus events, prospect data entry, application processing, and communications.
The KU Student Ambassadors represent student life at KU and pursue a variety of academic majors. They're involved in campus clubs and organizations — from service groups and sorority/fraternity life to academic organizations, student government, and beyond. Many have participated in undergraduate research, studied abroad, and held internships while at KU.
Please note, this is an on-campus, in-person position that will require 5 to 10 hours per week.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

  • Participates in and serves as the student voice during special virtual events, webinars, and virtual fairs for international prospective and admitted students. - 30%
  • Hosts virtual office hours for prospective international students on Slate. - 30%
  • Answers prospective and admitted students’ questions via email, phone, social
    media, and virtual meetings. - 30%
  • Other duties as assigned and at the direction of the International Recruitment Manager. - 10%

Required Qualifications

  1. Must be a current Student Ambassador in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and have completed the final evaluation as part of the training process
  2. Have good written and oral communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
  4. Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.0.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Flexible schedule, dependable, and outgoing personality.
  2. Involvement in one or more on campus student organizations.
  3. Knowledge of University of Kansas programs and services.
  4. Ability to be well organized and possess good time management skills.
