Lab Assistant - Student Hourly


Position Overview

The CEBC Labs (Located off-campus at 1501 Wakarusa Dr.) host research projects led by several faculty in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. This position will assist the CEBC Laboratory Director who oversees and coordinates shared facilities and equipment.
The position requires presence at CEBC most weekdays during the semester. The total weekly hours may vary depending on CEBC needs, but is generally anticipated in the range of 10 – 20 hours/week.
The CEBC Laboratory Assistant will learn and follow relevant laboratory safety procedures.

Job Description

Under supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Assistant may:
  • Assist with general upkeep of the laboratories, including organizing and cleaning of shared workspaces and storage areas. (40%)
  • Assist with maintaining CEBC chemical inventory. Reconcile location and quantity of chemical containers with online database. (40%)
  • Assist with routine maintenance of laboratory equipment following established procedures. Help maintain CEBC’s equipment inventory. (10%)
  • Other related duties as assigned. (10%)

Required Qualifications

  1. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  2. Current KU student in good standing.
  3. Availability of minimum 10 hours per week at off-campus location during regular business hours (8a - 5p, Monday thru Friday).

Advertised Salary Range

$15.00 per hour

Work Schedule
