Lecture Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UGTA) for Physics


Position Overview

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants will assist instructors during the class lectures, attend the weekly organizational meetings, and run recitation sessions.

Job Description

- 60% Assist instructor during in person lectures.
- 5% Attend weekly organizational meetings.
- 5% Run afternoon/evening recitation sections.
- 25% Hold office hours and group tutoring sessions.
- 5% Coordinate with other UGTA’s and Graders.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must have previously taken the course you are applying to, or its equivalent, and be in good academic standing as demonstrated in application materials.

  2. Must be able to attend the lecture sessions in person. Please do not apply if you are unable to meet this requirement. Please check http://classes.ku.edu for each course specifically.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience teaching or tutoring.
  2. Major in ASTR, PHSX, or EPHX

Additional Candidate Instructions

Please provide a cover letter addressed to the Department of Physics and Astronomy detailing your experience, and your availability to work in person for the class you are applying to assist. Also include a copy of your Degree Progress Report (DPR). Apply before the review date of December 30th for first round consideration. Please do not apply if you have never taken a Physics, Astronomy, or Engineering Physics course.
