Media Preservation Student Assistant


Position Overview

Job Description

Students will be involved in activities, such as:
  • the cleaning and caring for a variety of audiovisual formats.
  • film winding and inspection.
  • labeling and re-housing analog materials.
  • creating digital files.
  • keeping track of audiovisual materials in spreadsheets.

Conservation Services employs student workers who are good at following complex directions, able to adapt to changing workflows and appreciate repetitive tasks. Required Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated prior work experience with performing detailed and repetitive work with a high degree of accuracy as evidenced on application materials.
  2. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Work-study, library or archive experience.
  2. Prior experience handling film and legacy audio and video formats.
  3. Experience creating Word and Excel documents.
  4. Experience with Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, HandBrake or other media editing programs.

Advertised Salary Range

$11.00 per hour

Work Schedule

Approximately 15 hours/week; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 9am - 4pm.
