POOL - Midwestern Music Camps: Camp Instructors
Position Overview
This position works with direction from the Camp Director to create and teach curriculum for the Midwestern Music Camps. This position will require expertise in a specific area of music, including but not limited to: performance, conducting, music education, music theory, music history, specific music styles, or other knowledge and skills as required.
Positions will provide temporary assistance in a variety of areas to include student instruction. Work may include, but is not limited to project or program assistance, and small ensemble direction.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description
- 50% - Instruct masterclasses
- 45% - Coach Sectional/Chamber Ensemble
- 5% - Other (individual coaching, large ensemble rehearsal assistance)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music OR comparable music teaching experience, as evidenced in application materials
- One year experience teaching music to students either in a classroom setting OR in private music lessons
- Must have experience with KU through their education, work experience, or other connection.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree OR post-graduate study
- One year experience as a graduate teaching assistant in the KU School of Music or experience working with KU School of Music faculty
