POOL: Student Hourly-Entry Level IT Technician


Position Overview

Customer Service Center fosters and strengthens relationships between the KU community and KU Information Technology by providing a single point of contact for services offered by KU IT in a courteous, timely, and knowledgeable manner to facilitate access to information and the innovative use of technology in support of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor.

Job Description

  • Provide Phone, Email, Chat, & In-Person technology support to faculty, staff, and students for issues related to KU computing systems and services provided by KU IT (Enroll and Pay, E-mail, Classroom support, Delegate support, etc,).
  • Follow established departmental policy, processes, and procedures to ensure account security is maintained.
  • Generate service tickets and include detailed notes into ticketing system.
  • Update the knowledgebase as required.
  • Provide remote assistance to users as needed.
  • Assist with special projects, administrative reports, and other duties as assigned.
  • Provide at best support for personal devices

Required Qualifications

  1. Customer service experience.
  2. Strong oral and written communications skills as evidenced by application materials and interview.
  3. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours at the University of Kansas.
Position Requirement:
  • Able to work evening, weekend, holiday breaks and summer hours.
During the semester term of the appointment, the KU student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with KU environment and online services offered by KU IT.
  2. Experience with basic computer hardware and software troubleshooting.
  3. Experience using Windows, or Apple OS/iOS.
  4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  5. Experience with Microsoft Outlook.
  6. Experience using and troubleshooting audio/visual and equipment.
  7. Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and multi-task while staying on task.
