POOL: Student Research Assistant - I2S


Position Overview

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

Support research in one of the Institute for Information Sciences (I2S) centers. The I2S Centers are Center for Communications, Networking and Photonics; Center for Cyber-Social Dynamics; High Assurance and Secure Systems Center; Mathematical Methods & Interdisciplinary Computing Center; Radar Systems Laboratory; and Computer Systems Center. Specific research duties are determined on-the-job according to the needs of the professor, staff, and graduate students working on the specific project.

Required Qualifications

  1. Undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
  2. Programming experience in C++ / Java as evidenced by application material.
  3. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Engineering or closely related field.
  2. Engineering GPA > 3.5.

This is a POOL position to hire multiple Student Research Assistants. Applications are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year (fall 2024 and spring 2025) and positions are filled as needed. Only one application is needed per academic year.

Advertised Salary Range

$10-$20 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
