Student Aerial Photo Assistant


Position Overview

Assist the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) Libraries and Archives with preserving aerial photos. The KGS is located on West Campus, and the 15-20 hours per week must be worked onsite during business hours (8a-5p, Monday through Friday).

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description

  • 90% - Inventorying, data entry, and scanning of aerial photographs. This involves moving, sorting, files and loose folders of photos and adding information into a database or Excel spreadsheet.
  • 10% - Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  1. *KU student enrolled in at least six hours.
  2. Experience with Windows-based computers.
  3. Available 10-15 hr/wk during business hours, 8a-5p, M-F.
*During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than six credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than six hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than six hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to tolerate working environment that may be dusty.
  2. Ability to lift and move folders up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  3. Experience with aerial photographs.
  4. Experience with inventory.
