Student Assistant - Dole Archives
Position Overview
The Dole Archives at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas stewards the political collections of Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole. Collections documenting Senator Bob Dole’s life, political, and post-political careers – predominately covering his time in House of Representatives and Senate – are publicly available, and consist of 4,000 boxes of papers, approximately 25,000 images, hundreds of audio-visual recordings, and 7,000 artifacts.
The Dole Archives has two Student Assistant positions available. This position will engage in team and individual projects alongside other student assistants, interns, and staff members. This position emphasizes independent work and attention to detail. It is also an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience with a dynamic historical collection.

Job Description
Students will assist Archive staff with a variety of activities, including:
- cataloging papers, photographs, audio-visual material, and three-dimensional items
- providing reference services to researchers
- scanning and metadata entry for digitization projects
- preparation of exhibits
- archive and museum tours
- giving and/or planning public education programming
- other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Current enrollment (at least 6 hours) in an undergraduate program at KU. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Previous work experience demonstrating the ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by work experience, coursework, and/or application materials.
- At least 1 year experience in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with archives and special collections.
- Knowledge of Sen. Bob Dole's career and/or experience working in the Dole Archives.
- Coursework or career interest in Political Science, American History, Museum Studies, Library Science, or Education.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds with or without accommodation.

Advertised Salary Range
$11.00 per hour
Work Schedule
10 - 15 hours weekly between 9am - 5pm, Monday thru Friday
