Student Circulation Assistant - Anschutz Library
Position Overview
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).
Job Description
Successful candidates for the Student Circulation Assistant positions at KU Anschutz Library will perform a variety of library duties, including the following:
- 25% - Provide helpful and friendly assistance to library users in-person, by telephone, and sometimes by email.
- 25% - Check out, return, and shelve library materials.
- 20% - Perform a variety of collection maintenance duties, such as shelving and organizing.
- 15% - Assist library users with library equipment and technology.
- 10% - Answer library user questions and provide general information, directional guidance, and referrals to university sources using appropriate library resources and the internet.
- 5% - Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must maintain assigned work schedule.
- Commit to ongoing training in addition to work schedule.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Availability to work late night shifts and weekends.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service to library users.
- Recent public service work and/or volunteer experience.
- Library work experience and/or familiarity with KU Libraries as a user.
- Well-developed computer and research skills, including knowledge of Voyager library system, database and web searching and word processing.
- Work study eligibility.
- Availability to work when classes are not in session.
- Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system.
