Student Events Director, Center for Community Outreach


Position Overview

This position coordinates and oversees event planning and facilitation across the Center for Community Outreach (CCO). The Events Director leads the planning of Trunk or Treat and Into the Streets Week and supports each of the CCO’s thirteen programs in their event planning initiatives. This position serves as a member of the CCO’s Executive Staff.

Hiring, weekly hour maximum, and hourly rate of pay are contingent on KU Student Senate funding.

Job Description

75% - Event Organization and Management
  • Collaborate with Center for Community Outreach (CCO) Executive Staff and campus and community partners to plan and host Trunk or Treat in late October.
  • Collaborate with the Executive and Managing Directors to organize Super Service Saturday over summer break.
  • Plan a We Love Our Volunteers event to show appreciation to past, current, and future CCO volunteers.
  • Plan Into the Streets Week and assist all 13 of the CCO programs with hosting an event that furthers the mission of the Center for Community Outreach.
  • Developing a theme and a keynote event for Into the Streets Week in the spring.
20% - Executive Staff Collaboration
  • Participate in weekly Peer Advising meetings with the Managing Director.
  • Contribute to weekly CCO Executive Staff meetings.
  • Attend CCO Advisory Board meetings once a semester to report position updates.
  • Work collaboratively with all executive staff to evaluate progress and set goals for the CCO.
  • Report directly to the Executive Director and Managing Director.
5% - Additional tasks and projects as determined throughout the term

Required Qualifications

  1. Evidenced commitment to community outreach and service.
  2. Ability to lead and work with teams as evidenced in application material.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with others as evidenced in application material.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous experience working with the Center for Community Outreach.
  2. Ability to demonstrate effective project management skills.
  3. Ability to demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
