Student Hourly - Delivery Assistant
Position Overview
This position supports the College-based and KUCR-affiliated units in Malott Hall. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is expected that this schedule will be divided up among several students due to course schedules. This position's appointment length is during the Summer with potential for future semesters if performance is satisfactory and funding remains available.
We seek students who are self-starter (able to take initiative and seek out projects/work rather than waiting for projects), reliable, trustworthy, customer service-oriented, able to work well within a group or independently with minimal direction and enjoys working with a variety of people.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).

Job Description
This position's job duties can be divided as follows:
90% - Students in this position will receive packages, notify recipients when packages/shipments arrive, sort daily mail, reroute mis-directed mail and packages, and document daily package data.
10% - Students may also be asked to help visitors find their way around the building or contact recipients when freight or other large items need to be inspected before delivery is completed.

Required Qualifications
- Good written and oral communication skills (written skills will be examined via letter of interest; oral skills will be evaluated during personal interviews).
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, KU People Search, etc.).
- Demonstrated history of being punctual (keeping deadlines and maintaining expectations) as indicated in application materials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal Work Study funds as part of his/her financial aid package during the academic year.
- Past work experience demonstrating the ability to listen to instructions, learn quickly, practicing good judgment and a willingness to work independently.
- Past work experience demonstrating the ability to maintain an assigned schedule.
- Past work experience in a customer facing setting.
- Past work experience within a university or office type setting.

Advertised Salary Range
$12.50/hour
Work Schedule
9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. We will work with your course schedule, but we expect to assign shifts of no shorter than 2 hours each. Position is for up to 10 hours per week (or 20 hours per week with appropriate Federal Work Study eligibility).
