Student Hourly-Graphic Design Intern
Position Overview
Academic Success (Success Initiatives – Success Operations) is seeking a graphic design intern in support of multiple Academic Affairs units. In holding this position on the Digital Media Team, you will receive mentorship from expert specialists, be provided with career relevant networking opportunities, fine tune your soft-skills and get hands on experience within the visual side on the marketing industry. This intern must be a creative and forward thinker, bringing new ideas to the table with the ability to collaborate and grow with their team.
Job Description
70% Graphic Design
- Design engaging graphic based designs for print and digital use. This can include event/workshop marketing materials, brand guides, branded promotional items, web designs, posters, banners, flyers, TV graphics, PowerPoints and other marketing materials as needed.
- Enhance and maintain Academic Success brand, informed by Towering Toward the Blue brand standards (brand.ku.edu). Design swag and promotional materials for multiple units.
- Conduct market and industry research to understand target audiences by obtaining knowledge of past, current and future trends. Focusing on trend-forecasting to create graphics that may not be shared immediately.
- Understand and implement critiques and edits as necessary.
- Participate in weekly Marketing Team meetings and brainstorming sessions related to the development of current and future marketing and advertising campaigns.
- Work in collaboration with other members of the Digital Media Team (graphic design, photo, video, social media).
- Assist in the development of marketing campaigns to promote Academic Success initiatives, such as events and campaigns for multiple units.
- Complete assigned Professional Development courses/workshops.
- Take part in creating projects outside of ticketed projects.
- Attend networking events to expand your professional community.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, as shown in application materials.
- Experience with Canva, Figma, Lightroom, Premiere Pro and/or Adobe Express, as shown in application materials.
- Experience with visual design with skills in brand identity, as shown in application materials.
- Previous work experience which required prioritizing tasks and projects independently and collaboratively to meet established deadlines, as demonstrated in application materials.
- Previous work experience which required strong communication skills, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Previous work experience which required focused work on multiple projects simultaneously, as demonstrated in application materials.
- Experience requiring flexibility in adjusting deadlines for deliverables throughout the creative process, as shown in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office 364.
- Experience supporting creative and innovative strategical thinking, with the ability to understand marketing strategies for short-term and long-term campaigns.
- Experience with the principles and practices of digital, in-person and print based marketing.
- Experience working with management, and planning strategies for design focused collaborative projects, as demonstrated in application materials.
- Prior experience in digital media marketing.
Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
